Glen Scotia 10 Years Old Peated (46%, OB, 2018)

glen scotia 10 peated 46

Glen Scotia 10 Year Old Peated whisky review: A delicate balance of peat and lots of sweet influences, their is a little oily wax and masses of coconut and lychee. The result is one of those surprising whiskies you expect to be harsh on the palate due to the smoke on the nose – but instead it’s like a creamed banana & tropical fruit smoothie. Some nice herbal woody influences too make this feel a lot older than 10 years! 87/100

Laphroaig 10 Years Old (40%, OB, 2014)

Laphroaig 10 Years Old whisky review: A simply classic expression from Laphroaig, sweeter and milkier than my memory serves. I always remember the smoke and creosote from this dram although I’ll not be tasting that until tomorrow! I can’t believe it has taken me this long to sit down and collect notes from this. After quite a break from drinking this regularly it has been a pleasure to return and remind myself what great quality Laphroaig has even in their most basic expression. 84/100

The GlenDronach 10 Years Old Forgue (43%, OB, 2018)

The GlenDronach 10 Years Old Forgue whisky review: A little fatty/buttery and youthful spirit in here but also plenty of sherry influence, lighter and brighter fruits initially then drier and spicier oak wood. Sweet then sour, for a 10 year old this has some diversity over the palate, again thanks in part to the blatant usage of good old Sherry casks on this GlenDronach. 83/100

Caol Ila 2008 Post-Octave (52.8%, Duncan Taylor, 2018)

Caol Ila 2008 Duncan Taylor Pre-Post-Octave

Caol Ila 2008 Post-Octave whisky review: Again a very different experience, lots has moved around in this whisky when compared to the pre-octave and a heap of spices added, although here they are less distracting than the Highalnd Park Post-Octave. A lot more burnt, but dry burnt rather than over-caramelised sugars. Although the same score I prefer the Pre-Octave Caol Ila. 86/100
