FEW Bourbon Spirit review: An unusually spicy bourbon/spirit drink, lots of new make spirit influence and a good dose of new american/white oak wood – that’s about where any similarity to (my experience of) bourbon ends. 70/100

A delicious and flavour-full single malt expression from Balcones that combines the complexity of single malt whisky with the power of bourbon-style maturation. Rated by many as one of the best ‘standard’ expressions from Balcones distillery, I find it hard to disagree. 88/100
Smooth Ambler Contradiction whiskey review: An interesting concept and combination. I guess Bourbon and blending (scotch whisky style) come together here and create something greater than the sum of its parts, as all great blends should. There is a lightness and sweetness from the home spirit and some great aged flavours derived from the sourced material. 85/100
Widow Jane 10 Years Old Barrel #1791 whiskey review: A smooth easy-drinking bourbon with hits of fresh apples and tannic oak wood, some spice and brown sugar give this one real depth. A great single cask expression. 84/100
FEW Rye review: A rather well-balanced and drinkable Rye (dare I call it Whiskey?), not too spicy with plenty of fruity elements this is good enough to drink neat or has mileage for mixing into cocktails and longer drinks if required. Definitely improving! 84/100
Ragtime Rye – American straight rye whiskey review; Very drinkable, cherry-filled rye with a lovely creamy texture followed by rye and oak wood spices. 80/100
John E. Fitzgerald Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Review: A complex nose but much more straight-forward on the full-bodied palate, creamy and sweet and plenty of cedar wood. 86/100
Bernheim Original Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey Review: Slightly less complex than Bourbon, this wheat based whiskey has a softer, sweet and slightly spiced nature. Quite tasty and nutty with cereal elements add a bakery style / sweetie shop mixture. Very pleasant. 83/100
Oddly we sampled this completely independently of the 12 year stock bottle that we are still nursing at home and came away much less impressed. I’m not sure how much batch variation there is but the previous bottling had much more depth and complexity and evidence of well-aged Bourbon present. 81/100
A pleasant enough Bourbon with hints of spice and mint, plenty of Corn and Rye grain influences. Less wood influence than I like in my Bourbon or would prefer but pretty solid nonetheless. 80/100
