Aerstone 10 Years Old Land Cask (40%, OB, 2018)

Aerstone-70cl-LandCask-Bottle-Front

Aerstone 10 Years Old Land Cask whisky review: An interesting expression with potential, however this still feels a little rough around the edges and reminded me of some not so savoury HP expressions I have sampled in the past where the peat influence is too dry and over-dominant. For an entry-level (£20) supermarket whisky this carries a lot more flavours than most – vanilla this certainly isn’t! 81/100

Brenne Cuvee Speciale (40%, OB, 2018)

Brenne Cuvee Speciale whisky review: I quite like this one, something very different from classic Scotch single malts.  Definitely on the sweeter side and very perfumed, but I couldn’t get over my love of classic bubblegums which this reminded me of, and also cinnamon schnapps (which I’d rather not be reminded of!) something in the spirit quality maybe? Overall quite a different experience. 81/100

Inchmoan 10 Years Old 2006 135.6 Cones versus crones (57.1%, SMWS, Refill Bourbon HH, 297 Bottles, 2018)

SMWS 135.6 Cones versus crones whisky review: An intriguing dram this one, with a nose full of fresh vanilla and a palate of pure crazy in comparison. I actually rather liked this one, maybe a ot more than I should have. Not quite perfect for me, but a great indicator of where this spirit is headed with a little more maturation. I’ll definitely be seeking out a few more of these 135’s. 81/100

Lower East Side (40%, OB, 2018)

lower-east-side

Lower East Side blended malt whisky review: A very drinkable blended malt whisky, puts many entry-level ‘vanilla’ single malts to shame. A great balance and depth of marzipan/almonds and smoke pervades the honeyed barley malt and American oak maturation influences. Fresh and summery and ideal for drinking either neat or mixed. 81/100
