History In the late 1990s, in a pub in a small post-industrial Welsh valley town, a group of friends drank and chatted about establishing the first whisky distillery in Wales in over a century. They dreamt of creating a whisky as pure and precious as Welsh gold, represented today by Penderyn’s ‘gold seam’. The friends had a location in the historic village of Penderyn on the southern tip of the Brecon Beacons, chosen because of the site’s own supply of fresh natural spring water. They also had a unique copper single-pot still designed by Dr David Faraday, a relative of the great 19th-century scientist Michael Faraday. Penderyn Whisky was launched on St David’s Day 2004 in the presence of HRH Prince Charles.

  • Penderyn Madeira (2013) - Penderyn Madeira (46%, OB, 2012) 46% ABV, £35 for 70cl Score: 83/100 What they say: The Gold Medal award winning single malt whisky from the only distillery in Wales. Our unique distilled […]
  • Penderyn-Madeira Penderyn Madeira Finish (2020) - Penderyn Madeira Finish whisky review: Better than previous memory apart from the metallic copper in the finish which detracts slightly for me, love how the nose and palate have developed more into peach and sweeties territory. 82/100
  • Penderyn Peated (2013) - Penderyn Peated(46%, OB, 2012) 46% ABV, £35 for 70cl Score: 79/100 What they say: The sweet aromatic smoke of Penderyn Peated single malt whisky is an alluring and unusual expression of our […]
  • Penderyn-Peated Penderyn Peated (2020) - Penderyn Peated Whisky Review: This has grown on me a lot since my last tasting of this expression. The smoke seems much more subtle, present on the nose and delightfully in the finish but ethereal on the palate. 85/100
  • Penderyn Sherrywood (2013) - Penderyn Sherrywood (46%, OB, 2012) 46% ABV, £35 for 70cl Score: 81/100 What they say: A rich fruity single malt whisky derived from a combination of whisky matured in bourbon barrels and […]
  • Penderyn-Sherrywood Penderyn Sherrywood (2020) - Penderyn Sherrywood Whisky Review: A much more balanced expression than an out and out Sherrybomb! 83/100

  • penderyn-that-boutiquey-whisky-company-whisky Penderyn 6 Years Old Batch 1 (2020) - Penderyn 6 Years Old Batch 1 Whisky Review: Syrupy and sweet, very drinkable but also very spiced on the palate. Contains an odd soapiness before the sherried fruits arrive. An odd little number indeed. 84/100
