We welcome you to the family estate of Douët Gasnier, in the town of Mantilly. You can taste all our AOC products made from the fruit of our traditional orchards. We pay close attention to each stage of production so that our products express the terroir from which they come.
What I say:
Sampled at Le Marche de St. Hilaire du Harcouet where Jean-Claude & Louisette Fourmond regularly have a stall for the products produced on their farm, including Cider, Perry, Pommeau and Calvados.
Appearance
Very pale green/gold (2/20)
Nose:
Fresh and fruity on the nose and also young and sprightly, orchard fruits; apple and pear, pear drops/estery, propyl ethanoate a little solventy/spirity
Taste:
Light – medium bodied, direct fresh fruit, apples, pears, perhaps a faint hint of vanilla, again young and spirity
Finish:
Short, pleasant sweet fruits
Overall:
A very spirit driven expression, everything from colour to palate suggested very little wood influence in this Calvados making me suspect it had been aged in older refill casks. A solid fruity expression for mixing perhaps but a little too light and fruity for sampling neat.
Score: 70/100
Don’t take my word for it:
