What they say:
A half bottle of Kilkerran 9 year old Single Malt, matured in Rum casks and release at the Glengyle Distillery Open Day during the 2015 Campbeltown Malt’s Festival.
What I say:
From Moxies’s Tasting with Moxie – a Festivus for the rest of us.
Colour:
Antique/refractive gold (3/20), oily thick streaky legs
Nose:
Vanilla cream, light zesty citrus, pencil shavings, new wood, icing sugar sweetness, crème brulee, cane sugar, spices, cinnamon, a little cider vinegar fumes on hot potato chips
Taste:
Rich oily and buttery, lemon butter pancakes, sweet and spiced, white pepper, melba toast, demerara or cane sugar, crème brulee, cigarette smoke, starts to thin in the mouth at the end
Finish:
Long, sweet, spiced woody demerara rum
Overall:
This has a rich rummy sweetness but just can’t quite carry this the whole distance, definitely a candied wood and whisky feel to this one.
Score: 86/100
Don’t take my word for it:
