Cambus 21 Years Old 1991 Signatory Cask Strength Collection 50.5%
- 50.5% ABV, £64.95 for 70cl
- Score: 76/100
What they say:
A single grain whisky from Signatory presented at full cask strength. Distilled in July 1991, it was bottled in December 2012 after a 21 year maturation period. Cask No 55886, yielding 468 bottles at 50.5% ABV.
What I say:
Dram #4 from the Jolly Jaunt to Annandale distillery was from yet another ex-distillery, this time Cambus distillery and yet another example of Grain whisky – however delivered this time with a twist, as this one is sherry-matured!
Colour:
Ruby gold
Nose:
Sherry, tannic leather, fruity red berries, sweet and with hints of acetone (nail polish remover)
Taste:
Deep red fruits, strawberry, plum, red apples, raspberry, tannic leather, nutty hints and lots of oaky wood
Finish:
Long, sherried fruits and a little metallic
Overall:
I actually found this one hard work, the sherry influence is very strong but the underlying spirit doesn’t have the backbone or body to carry it for me. The end results was a lot of tannic leather and a weirdly coppery metallic note on the finish.
Sampled during the Jolly Jaunt to the pre-opening of the Annandale Distillery 12th October 2014
