Crabbies Yardhead

crabbies-yardhead-whisky-1

On its own this is a fairly basic single malt. Perfect for mixing but also drinkable in its own right. Their are traces of youthful spirit and a touch of sulphur but also a lovely minerality proving a distinct character that does carry though into longer mixed drinks or cocktails. By no means a neutral base spirit. 78/100

Kamiki Blended Malt Whisky

Kamiki Blended Malt Whisky review: Oddly woody and spicy, it is hard to measure this against other whisky expressions as I have never tasted anything from Japanese cedar wood before. It certainly seems to bring a unique character to this blended malt that is unmistakably woody and Japanese in nature. 78/100

Scallywag

Scallywag blended malt whisky review: More fuller flavoured than I remember and much more complex too. Still quite fruity in nature and just a little more spice and wood than I prefer but a decent blended malt nonetheless. I guess my reservation lies in the surreptitious use of sherry casks in this blend which perhaps represents the dichotomy of Speysides’ output today but I don’t feel is indicative of the regions flavour profile in general. 78/100

BenRiach 10 Years Old Triple Distilled

Benriach 10 Year Old Triple Distilled

BenRiach 10 Years Old Triple Distilled single malt Scotch whisky review: A fabulous nose, the palate is a lot more subdued with a fantastic texture but a little too sour, under-ripe fruit and peppery spiced oak wood for me however. An unusual combination of new make or young spirit notes mix with herbal and woody more aged notes, leaving me a little unsure of this one. Perhaps it needs a little more time to integrate or a change in the cask balance as very little I could ascribe to PX was present other than the caramel/treacle/liquorice influences perhaps leaving it feel much more like purely ex-bourbon matured. An interesting example of triple distilled spirit from BenRiach. 78/100
