Benriach 5 Years Old 2013 Single Cask Series (46.2%, GreatDrams, Oloroso Butt #121/2013, 213 Bottles, 2019)

Benriach 5 Years Old 2013 The GreatDrams Single Cask Series Whisky Review: Quite light and spirity and shows signs of youth particularly in the coppery metallic nature. Not overtly peated – I picked this up blind as a dark/liqourice and burnt nature in which this gets most of its strength. Nice dark/dried fruit and sugary notes. 81/100

Kininvie 5 Years Old 2013 Single Malt KVSM001 (47%, OB, Triple distilled, ex-bourbon casks, 2019)

Kininvie KVSM001

Kininvie KVSM001single malt whisky review: Initially I found this far too light and thin and didn’t favour the off citrus notes and spice. On revisit, and having breathed a little, this had smoothed a little around the edges, more sweetness and less acridity was apparent. I can’t see myself drinking a lot of this neat / with water as single malt should in my mind be able to be consumed. 68/100

Wolfburn Aurora (46%, OB, 2016)

This light and delicate dram was a little lip-tingling and teeth cleaning attest to the youthfulness of this spirit, whose vigour is tempered by some complex maturation and marrying on the palate. The nose is a little underwhelming and the finish a little over-spiced but don’t let this detract from the serious quality in this whisky which at only 3 years old is a great wee drinker and perfect starter dram. 82/100
