Whiskymetrics is dead.

Yes that’s right whiskymetrics is dead! Plagiarised by Malt and pilloried by Whiskyfun our ever popular/unpopular monthly Whisky blog rankings will be no more. Before all the bemoaning, wailing and casting of aspersions starts I should explain that have stated that it will be retiring on May 1st 2022.

Since the end of 2015 I’ve tried to publish the only reasonably independent and freely available metric on the traffic rankings of as many Whisky Blog websites as I could find. Much like TV viewing figures the majority of these are estimates and easily manipulated – as can be attested by numerous sites who have used this to their advantage to over-inflate their relevance. While my intention was to simply provide a yardstick to compare our efforts, sadly even this was abused by the unscrupulous, which was never my intention.

With the eventual cessation of this service I have decided that December 2021 rankings will be the last I publish. I will continue to curate a list of blogs and will more than likely (now that I am not using directly for the rankings) revert it to its former complete listing including defunct/inactive websites. As usual if I have overlooked your site, however small, please let me know and I’ll gladly add it to the list as part of the whisky-loving community. If there is some other way in future I can serve this community in a constructive, fair and encouraging fashion then I will gladly do so.

Wishing everyone the best for the festive season and here’s to a healthy, happy and dram-filled 2022

  1. Sad news Barry!
I for one always eagerly looked forward to the rankings – if only to get an independent view on how my own blog was doing.
It was even more pleasurable when my blog actually featured!
Kudos due for all the work you put into it.
