Whisky Blog Rankings December 2018
Ranked by Alexa rank / traffic estimates
Following numerous queries over the last few months about how this list is generated and these sites are ranked, at the start of each month I generate a snapshot of Alexa rank data for all website addresses in our A-Z listing on that specific date/time. Alexa traffic estimates are just that, an estimate of how much traffic is visiting these sites and then assigned a ranking so the most visited website is assigned global traffic rank no.1 – from the data below you can see that The Whisky Wash is the 129,589th most visited website in the world (according to Alexa). This month I have posted each websites global rank data used to sort them into our ranking.
Volatility in these estimates is partly due to fluctuations in visitor numbers e.g. having a very/overly popular post/article published creating a temporary spike in visitor numbers. To adjust for this Alexa generates the estimate on a 3 month average.
Sadly some sites may receive zero rank today but tomorrow or the next day have one recorded and likewise vice versa, which has generated some confusion as to why or why not some blogs are listed this month. I have tried to make this process as simple (for myself) and unbiased as possible.
Similar to issues with Facebook, Instagram or Twitter followers there are certainly unscrupulous methods of generating or buying website traffic to artificially inflate a websites Alexa ranking! So I will repeat my usual caution of not reading too much into these.
All being equal this is a listing of lots of great websites and may have some bearing on relatively how popular each is compared to the others. All blogs in our A-Z listing are well worth visiting and represent the hard work and passion for whisky which pretty much everyone reading this should share . They are well worth visiting, reading and leaving a few likes or comments on.
Understandably this monthly post has always been very popular, however feedback has been very mixed for understandable reasons and I am currently wondering whether or not to continue this into 2019 – if you have any feelings about this either way I welcome any comments. I was always saddened when Top Of The Pops was pulled from the TV schedule.
Whatever it’s imperfections – there was a certain amount of collectivisim in the shared viewing & experience.
Music is now so fragmented & individualised into niche categories & identities.
Whiskey Bloggers are as diverse as the whiskeys they review.
I value the collective ratings that are posted.
I pour a large measure when my blog goes up & shed tears into my drink when it goes down.
It’s an affirmation of all the lonely hours spent in front of the computer screen.
