We welcome you to the family estate of Douët Gasnier, in the town of Mantilly. You can taste all our AOC products made from the fruit of our traditional orchards. We pay close attention to each stage of production so that our products express the terroir from which they come.
What I say:
Sampled at Le Marche de St. Hilaire du Harcouet where Jean-Claude & Louisette Fourmond regularly have a stall for the products produced on their farm, including Cider, Perry, Pommeau and Calvados. This Reserve expression has been matured for a minimum of 10 years.
Appearance
Yellow green/gold (4/20)
Nose:
Fruity on the nose but much more rounded and with greater depth, apples and pears predominate again but include a touch of apricot and some nice sweet caramel notes also
Taste:
Medium bodied, fresh fruit, apples, pears, apricot, caramel sauce, toffee, golden syrup, toffee apples, a little tannic oak wood with hints of vanilla essence
Finish:
Medium, sweet, toffee apples
Overall:
Much more balanced than the 6 year old Reserve we sampled, a deliciously syrupy sweet and dark caramelised sugar note comes from the wood ageing which is well-balanced against the fresh fruit from the Calvados spirit. The result is pure toffee apples in a glass, delightful!
Score: 78/100
Don’t take my word for it:
