What they say:
Meticulously selected by our Cellar Master, Mezan rums capture the depth and diversity of the Caribbean and offer a taste of its purest, most authentic flavors. Distilleries old and new, some founded centuries ago, others no longer in operation; all are subject to our Cellar Master’s discerning eye. He tirelessly travels throughout the region, seeking out its hidden treasures: untouched rums, artfully crafted from a single year’s distillation by a single distillery. Unsweetened, uncolored and only lightly filtered, these vintage rums represent the finest, truest expression of their producer and country of origin.
Nose
Sweet aromas of caramelized bananas, ripe mango & vanilla spice combine with flavors of banana bread, honeycomb and candied fruit.
Taste
A delicate finish with notes of dried coconut and cocoa.
What I say:
Sampled during the #MezanRum tweet tasting hosted by Steve @TheWhiskyWire
Appearance:
Rich golden brown (14/20)
Nose:
Caramel/Toffee sweet, Toffifee – with praline, nut and chocolate too, crème brulee
Taste:
Caramel sauce, praline, chocolate, oak wood, vanilla, a little dried mango and *ahem* Jamaican ginger cake & spiced caramel latte
Finish:
Short, spiced caramel latte
Overall:
A delicious dessert of a rum with plenty of chocolate, sugar, ginger cake and coffee.
Score: 89/100
