What they say:

The Creative Whisky Company Single Cask Exclusives Grain 10 years old GV003 is a Lowlands single grain from Girvan bottled in the Single Cask Exclusives series by the independent bottler The Creative Whisky Company. A series of young and affordable whiskies bottled at 50% ABV. This Girvan was distilled in 2006 and matured in a bourbon barrel before being finished in a rum cask. It was bottled at 50% ABV, non chill filtered and with no added colour.

Nose:

caramel, candied red fruit and warm oak

Palate:

treacle, toffee, pungent red fruit and ‘liquid’ oak

Finish:

warm with some spices at the back of the palate

What I say:

Dram#1 from The Dram Team Incredible Indies box set was an unusual Rum cask-finished 10 year old single grain distilled at Girvan distillery and bottled by The Creative Whisky Company

Colour:

champagne gold (2/20) slow small droplet tears leave fine legs

Nose:

Sweet and light, window polish/cleaner, alcohol solventy, caramac, banana crème brulee, green, vegetal , stewed apple & kale? Wood glue and book bindings, faint old rubber innertubes

Palate:

Rounded, mellow caramel with a fruity bite, crisp green apple and lemon juice, pickled ginger, oak wood comes in but with a muscovado sugar sweetness

Finish:

Medium-long, zesty then spice slightly drying

Overall:

Unusual for a grain whisky, quite woody and has a depth of sugary toffee to it too that must come from the rum cask finish, actually quite balanced for a grain because of it.

Score: 83/100

Don’t take my word for it:
