Water Of Life Society Tasting 15/9
Imperial Tasting
12/03/2015
Tickets for this tasting were pre-sold and are now sold out.
If you have a ticket for this tasting, prepare yourself to be amazed by our very own Thomas McEntee of Benromach/Benriach fame. Thomas will be presenting 6 whiskies from the long gone Imperial Distillery.
Imperial 16 Years Old 1995 (casks 50324+50325) ~ 46% (Signatory Vintage) [left]
Imperial 18 Years Old (casks 50288+50289) ~ 46% (Signatory Vintage) [right]
Thomas started with 2 1995 distilled expressions matured for 16 or 18 years by Signatory vintage in matching ex-bourbon hogsheads
Imperial 18 Years Old 1993 ~ 43% (Gordon & MacPhail)
Next was this Sherry matured 1993-2011 expression from Gordon & MacPhail
Imperial-Glenlivet 37 Years Old 1977 Single Cask ~ 53.5% (Wm Cadenhead)
The oldest Imperial expression sampled was provided by Wm Cadenhead’s with this 35 year old 1977 vintage single ex-bourbon cask
Imperial 10 Years Old 1998 ~ 53.6% (Whisky Magazine)
A 10 year old cask strength bottled by Duncan Taylor & Co Ltd. for Whisky Magazine in 2009 followed
Imperial 23 Years Old 1990 Old & Rare ~ 57.9% (Hunter Laing & Co. Ltd.)
And finally my favourite of the evening another Sherry butt matured Imperial, aged for 23 years and bottled at cask strength by Hunter Laing & Co. Ltd.
Many thanks to Thomas for putting together a varied and interesting selection of Imperial whiskies, rapidly becoming more and more scarce to obtain at sensible prices. This tasting was an absolute delight to experience the character of this, sadly now demolished, Speyside distillery.
