Brenne Cuvee Speciale (40%, OB, 2018)

brenne-french-single-malt-whisky

Brenne Cuvee Speciale whisky review: I quite like this one, something very different from classic Scotch single malts.  Definitely on the sweeter side and very perfumed, but I couldn’t get over my love of classic bubblegums which this reminded me of, and also cinnamon schnapps (which I’d rather not be reminded of!) something in the spirit quality maybe? Overall quite a different experience. 81/100

Grant’s Triple Wood Smoky (40%, OB, 2018)

Grants-Whisky-Smoky-bottle

Grant’s Triple Wood Smoky Blended Scotch whisky review: A delightful little blend that opens on the nose with a definite peat and smoke. I’m sure this will frighten a few people off but the palate in contrast is just full of fruit and dark sugars, the smoke doesn’t really appear until much later. I’m definitely going to use this one in blind tastings as it really plays with the perceptions. Really rather fun! 80/100

Lower East Side (40%, OB, 2018)

lower-east-side

Lower East Side blended malt whisky review: A very drinkable blended malt whisky, puts many entry-level ‘vanilla’ single malts to shame. A great balance and depth of marzipan/almonds and smoke pervades the honeyed barley malt and American oak maturation influences. Fresh and summery and ideal for drinking either neat or mixed. 81/100

The Singleton of Dufftown Malt Master’s Selection (40%, OB, 2018)

Singleton Malt Master's Selection

The Singleton of Dufftown Malt Master’s Selection Single Malt Scotch Whisky Review: A very mealy and really rather good expression from Dufftown, I have to admit to being partial to the 12yo which is an easy drinker for me. Perhaps it is more spirit character here, but I found myself liking this expression better with a view to re-acquainting myself with the 12yo again for comparison. I’m not usually a big fan of spice but this has just the right addition to liven up a thick, sweet and rich expression. 84/100
