Dartmoor Distillery

DartmoorDistillery

Several years ago a group of whisky enthusiasts visited Islay to make whisky. On their return they said why has no one ever made whisky in Devon? We have the climate & soil to grow great quality barley. We have the granite geology of Dartmoor that filters wonderful Dartmoor spring water, and we have the air quality, and sea breezes to provide great storage during maturation.

With great local producers, such as Tuckers Maltings, one of the oldest established traditional barley malting houses in the country, and with more cask beer brewers than any other county in England, all the components are here to make very fine single malt whisky.

And so it was that Greg Millar & Simon Crow came together to make this dream a reality.

We found our still in Cognac and brought it to Devon in 2014. We then found our wonderful distillery building, Bovey Tracey Town Hall, the perfect building to be home to our project, and to give a much needed new lease of life to a great Victorian building.

We brought Mr Frank McHardy from Campbeltown to Dartmoor to assess our project. We were delighted when Frank assessed our plans and consented to be our Master Distiller.

And so we enter 2016 with all the components in place to start producing Dartmoor Single Malt Whisky.
