What they say

Released to commemorate 100 years since the passing of their co-founder, this limited-edition Irish whiskey from Egan’s was initially matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in XO Cognac casks. The palate offers a balance between creamy vanilla, malty cereals and sweet apricot notes.

Official tasting notes:

Nose: Floral grains, honey & dried apricot before a hint of vanilla.

Mouth: Light wafers, new leather, sultanas and almond. Touches of ginger infused chocolate, and zesty fruits.

Linger: Long and gentle, with ginger returning next to lemon zest and a touch of liquorice to close.

What I say

Celebrating the release of Egan’s Irish Whiskey Legacy Reserve Vol III with a tour through 4 of their expressions. This Centenary edition is a blend of single grain and single malt married in XO Cognac casks of French Limousin Oak.

This post was sponsored by Egan’s Irish Whiskey by provision of a sample of this product.

My tasting notes:

  • Appearance: Light amber gold (8/20), slow, rounded, medium tears and beaded legs.
  • Nose: Rich toffee, fudge, tablet, caramel, nutty and woody, apricot, nectarine, honey, polished oak wood, oaty and malty cereals, flapjacks and porridge.
  • Taste: medium-light bodied, full of mixed stone fruits, nutty almonds, leather, grapefruit zest, cinnamon and nutmeg spices, a touch of vanilla, toasted coconut and Portugese custard tarts.
  • Finish: medium-long, ginger spice and lemon zest classic combination.

Overall

A delicious blend full of cereal, stone fruits and leather a marriage of a good base and plenty of French oak cask influence here, nice and chewy.

Score 85/100
