What they say

A symbol of the distillery’s values, Armorik Double Maturation highlights both the quality of its know-how and its roots in the Breton terroir. It is aged in unique oak casks from the Breton forests, made by the last cooper in Brittany. After several years, the whisky is transferred into oloroso sherry casks.

Official tasting notes:

  • Nose: A very fine balance between the fruity notes of mirabelle plums and citrus, with spicy vanilla highlights
  • Mouth: A very smooth and rounded attack of honey, the product’s complexity is revealed with notes at the same time spicy, lightly woody with ripe fruit in generous volume.
  • Finish: Very long, with notes of spices, biscuit and marmalade.

What I say

The third and final expression I sampled in Armorik’s single malt core range is this Double Maturation expression which is first matured in Breton oak casks before finishing in ex-Oloroso sherry casks.

My tasting notes:

  • Appearance: Yellow gold (8/20), slow, medium-fine tears and tapered-fine legs.
  • Nose: Sherry-influenced with raisin and dried fruit, leather, chocolate, plums, malty barley, treacle, molasses, gingerbread, more red berry fruits and a pinch of salt.
  • Taste: Rich and creamy mouthfeel, thick/full-bodied, toffee, raisin, red apples, milk chocolate, polished wood and a hint of acetone, spirit, malty, pear drops, sweet ripe banana and more oak wood.
  • Finish: Medium-long, sweet polished oak wood with warming spices, gingerbread.

Overall

Great aromas and mouthfeel, the double-maturation gives good depth and texture and carries some of those darker and woodier sugary flavours topped by classic sherry finish elements.

Score 80/100
