ROYAL SALUTE RELEASES FIRST EVER BLENDED GRAIN SCOTCH
Limited 21 Year Old Snow Polo Edition is the first of its kind for Royal Salute
[NOVEMBER 2019] ‘The King of Whisky’ Royal Salute has launched the third expression in its annual Polo Collection, and its first ever blended grain Scotch: Royal Salute 21 Year Old Snow Polo Edition. Crafted by renowned Royal Salute Master Blender Sandy Hyslop and endorsed by elite polo player and Royal Salute World Polo Ambassador Malcolm Borwick, this exclusive limited edition Scotch is the first blended grain to feature in the Royal Salute portfolio since the brand’s launch in 1953.
Made with some of the exceptional single grain whiskies that are essential to Royal Salute’s revered signature blend and non-chill-filtered thanks to the clear nature of grain, Royal Salute 21 Year Old Snow Polo Edition delivers a sweet, smooth taste on the palate with layers of warm toffee and toasted hazelnuts. Aged in predominantly American Oak casks to make for a honeyed finish, and crafted at a special strength of 46.5% ABV, which matches the latitudinal coordinates of 46.5 GPS of St Moritz – the birthplace of snow polo – the Snow Polo Edition is considerably different to its two predecessors in the Collection.
Royal Salute Master Blender Sandy Hyslop said of the new blend: “After many years spent experimenting, blending, and sampling, it is a real thrill to finally be able to introduce a 21 Year Old blended grain Scotch to the Royal Salute portfolio. I’m always looking for new sources of inspiration for blending, and the unique sport of snow polo proved to be one of the richest yet. The Snow Polo Edition has a remarkable depth of flavour – and it is perhaps fitting that we would recommend that these flavours are best released when served over ice.”
The limited edition brings to life Royal Salute’s modern new packaging style launched earlier this year, displaying the 70cl bottle in a vibrant and contemporary gift box inspired by vintage Alpine art-deco, featuring Malcolm Borwick’s signature red helmet and moniker. Inside, the whisky is presented in Royal Salute’s iconic porcelain flagon, embossed with a polo scene, and dressed for the first time in white with a distinctive silver close.
The Royal Salute Polo Collection is a range of limited-edition blends that celebrate Royal Salute’s longstanding affinity with the ‘Sport of Kings’, with each expression taking inspiration from the different environments in which polo is played around the world. Dating back over a decade, Royal Salute’s affinity with polo continues to be celebrated through a global programme of events spanning four continents and including the support of polo tournaments worldwide including the World Snow Polo Cup in St Moritz and the St Regis World Snow Polo Championships in Aspen.
Royal Salute Marketing Director, Mathieu Deslandes, added: “This is the most exciting time for our brand in years as we aim to really raise the bar for luxury Scotch whisky. We are on a journey to open up the luxury Scotch category and invite new audiences into our world – and we believe we have found something truly special in our first ever blended grain whisky.”
The Royal Salute Snow Polo Edition will be released for a limited time in November 2019, available at select travel retailers worldwide at an RRP of $155 USD. For more information, visit www.royalsalute.com or follow @royalsalute online.
