News: New Whisky Releases 2016 week 1
So the start of a whole new year – lets welcome in 2016 in good old Scottish tradition with a wee dram or several!
Personally I chose a Bladnoch (9 Years old ‘Kippford’ bottled May 2014) bottled by the last owners just before closing for my final dram of 2015. To celebrate our visit to Campbeltown in 2015 I started 2016 with the Springbank exclusive to distillery visitors bottling followed by a 23 year old sherried Bunnahabhain single cask ‘Bass’ bottled by Lockett Bros of North Berwick.
So what does the start of 2016 have in store for us:
One can’t ignore the high profile releases of mature stock from both the Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries though the astronomical price tags may put all but collectors off! As usual some of the higher output distilleries are represented in independent bottlings with both Caol Ila and Mortlach featuring at a range of ages by various bottlers – the Signatory Cask Strength Caol Ila 31yo example excites us particularly as well as their well-aged grain from the now closed Cambus distillery. The final Autumn/Winter Diageo yearly releases Caol Ila DE and Knockando vintage 12yo make an appearance. An unusual range of Ole Smokey flavoured moonshines is released, and a very exciting New Zealand release 22 years old and cask strength!
