Review: Fynebank Peat Smoked Golden Ale
What they say:
Peat Smoked Golden Ale
Hops: Perle, Mount Hood
Malt: Pale Malt, Torrified Wheat, Springbank’s Low Peat Malt
Available in: 12 x 330ml bottles
Fynebank is a peat smoked golden ale that has been brewed in collaboration with Springbank Distillery. Springbank’s malt is lightly peated and provides a subtle earthy smokiness to the beer. Mount Hood hops add warm spiced orange to the aroma that is balanced with toffee notes from the malt.
What makes it special?
This beer was made in collaboration with our neighbours at the Springbank Distillery. The beer was made using Springbank’s lightly peated malt. This is the first of several collaborations we are going to do with Springbank.
What I say:
A smooth Golden Ale, plenty of toffee malt, some real earthy peat and malted barley and fruity hops. Using only lightly peated malt this beer was not quite as peaty as I was expecting, certainly less so than Springbank whisky expressions? Nontheless the peat is there and has a nice earthen and almost mossy nature which is well integrated in this brew. In fact as this is a rather light ale style we thought the gentler smoky peat nature benefited this style best.
