What they say:

Lagavulin Distillery Warehouse Tasting Sample #3

What we say:

P1060680

Finally we get to grips with the Valinch and draw this on directly from the cask under Iain’s expert supervision

 P1060682

Not one to miss a good competition I had a go too

P1060684

But appear to have drank most of what I drew out

P1060686

Thankfully some made it into our glasses despite our best attempts to drain the cask directly…

Colour:

Amber gold

Nose:

Smokey barley malt, fruity orange, peach and plum, meaty bacon, sweet almonds and machine oil

Taste:

Spicy cinnamon, ginger and cayenne pepper kickstart this dram before a smokey, oily and syrupy bbq sauce or bbq spare rib flavour develops, some fruitiness including tomato, with water this is much warmer and buttery in the mouth and a little oaky wood and nuttiness is revealed like bbq roast chestnut or walnut

Finish:

Hint of bbq smoke, then long sweet and fruity with more smokey vapours, with water more peaty smoke is revealed

Would I buy it:

Smokey, sweet and savoury, possibly the best dram we tried during the warehouse tasting. Paula was desperate to use this to marinate ribs for the bbq so look out for Lagavulin-smoked ribs soon!

If anyone marinates ribs with Lag21 I will commit ritual suicide.

I had a little ’94 PX cask Distiller’s Edition left that went well on ribs, but if we come across more 21… ;-p

If I saw ribs marinated in Lagavulin 21, I would be forced to cry, try them, and love them no doubt!
