What I say:
Purchased on a whim, we spotted this on the online store for The Whisky Shop while making another purchase. Considering we had started to try and rate most of the other Whisky-matured beers we had come across, we thought it would be interesting to see what one of the bigger beer producers could do for comparison.
Deep ruby chestnut
Hoppy, toffee hints and oak wood
Creamy toffee and oak
Would I buy it again:
The end result? Actually rather uninspiring and pretty characterless. Tennent’s Whisky-Beer isn’t going to upset anyone’s palate, so don’t be afraid to try it. Yes there are subtle hints of oaky wood maturation and perhaps a little sweetness and barley from the whisky, but nothing here to write home about. We’ll not be stocking up on this so long as Eden Brewery and Innis & Gunn are still producing…
