What they say:
This remarkable Tullibardine 1488 Whisky beer is brewed with the pure crystal spring water and malted barley used in the distillation process. It is conditioned in individually numbered oak casks which have been used in the maturation of the majestic Tullibardine single malt Scotch Whisky, it’s distinctive character beautifully balanced by the lightness of touch so familiar to Tullibardine connoisseurs the world over. Bottled at 7% volume.
Water, Malted Barley, Malted Wheat, Hops, Yeast
What I say:
Tullibardine distillery claims 1488 is the first recorded year that brewing is mentioned on this site. As a distillery it is much more modern than that (actually 1949). The 1488 premium whisky beer is still brewed near the site and uses Tullibardine whisky casks for maturation as well as some of the same malted barley.
Golden chestnut brown
Oaky, washback, yeasty wash, sweet and fruity
Full, thick and creamy this is very sweet and oaty, flavours of malted barley and golden syrup, this has a whisky-treacle character like a bitter or porter type ale, flavoured with malted chocolate (chocolate milkshake).
Would I buy it again:
Never stopped! This is my favourite whisky beer and while it doesn’t have quite the ‘marketing’ back story like Innis & Gunn for example this really is a beer that is made partially with components of the whisky making process. This includes both raw materials and cask finishing. The result may be a little too sweet and heavy for some tastes but I love it!
